How are lawyers and law firms contributing to the fight against climate change? Will the pandemic slow or quicken the transition to a net zero world?
esela - The legal network for social impact and The Chancery Lane Project will host an online panel on the topic of ‘Law and the Climate Emergency’ during London Climate Action Week Digital.
Many commentators have suggested that the pandemic is a dress rehearsal for the social and economic challenges of the climate emergency. This event will explore the role of law, lawyers and collaboration in the fight against climate change.
Join the event to find out about initiatives driven by collectives of lawyers, investors and businesses who are showing leadership and contributing to a coordinated response, and how you can be part of the transition.
Speakers:
- Simon Davis, President of the Law Society of England and Wales
- Ellie Mulholland, Director of the Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative (Moderator)
- Matthew Gingell, Chair of The Chancery Lane Project and General Counsel at Oxygen House
- Silke Goldberg, Chair of the Legal Response International (LRI) and Partner at Herbert Smith Freehills
- Mark Campanale, Founder & Executive Chair of Carbon Tracker Initiative
- Lina Pimentel Garcia, Head of Environmental Law at Mattos Filho and Senior Vice Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA) Environment, Health & Safety Committee
Starting at the event, The Chancery Lane Project will be hosting a 48 hour virtual hackathon. The purpose of the hackathon will be to generate the ‘origin stories’ for the next version of their Climate Contract Playbook, the second version of which will be published as part of the week’s events.
